Everything you need to know

From connecting your first cloud account to scaling optimization across your organization — answers to the most common questions about PointFive.

General

What PointFive is, how it works, and who it's for

PointFive is the AI Efficiency OS — a platform that detects deep waste across your cloud and AI infrastructure and remediates it autonomously. We combine agentless integration, a proprietary DeepWaste™ detection engine with 500+ optimization types, and agentic remediation to deliver measurable savings across AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Snowflake, and Databricks.

Cloud & AI Efficiency Management is the discipline of measuring and improving the efficiency of your cloud and AI footprint. It continuously monitors infrastructure for inefficiencies in configuration, scaling, and architecture — and streamlines remediation. Inspired by the CSPM model for security, it brings the same continuous posture management approach to cloud and AI efficiency.

Traditional FinOps focuses on cost visibility and financial reporting for procurement teams. Cloud & AI Efficiency Management goes deeper — detecting architectural inefficiencies, configuration gaps, and utilization issues that billing-based tools miss, across both cloud infrastructure and AI workloads. It provides context-rich recommendations for engineering teams and AI-guided remediation, transforming efficiency from a periodic finance exercise into a continuous engineering discipline.

PointFive is built for engineering leaders (VP Eng, Directors, CTOs), platform and SRE teams, and FinOps practitioners who want recommendations engineers will actually act on. It bridges the gap between financial objectives and engineering workflows — across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, data platforms, and AI workloads.

PointFive uses agentless, read-only integrations through standard cloud provider IAM roles (AWS), service principals (Azure), or service accounts (GCP). For Kubernetes, it's completely agentless. We never request write access to your environment. Most customers are fully connected in under an hour.

PointFive supports AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE), Snowflake, and Databricks — covering 85+ cloud and AI services with 500+ unique detection types. We analyze compute, storage, databases, networking, serverless, AI/ML, data & analytics, observability, streaming, security, and containers.

Cloud Integrations

Connecting AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Snowflake, and Databricks

PointFive connects through a read-only IAM role using AWS CloudFormation or Terraform. No agents, no write access. The connection takes minutes and immediately begins analyzing your Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), resource configurations, and utilization metrics across all AWS services.

AWS Cost Explorer shows you what you spend. PointFive tells you what you're wasting and how to fix it. Our DeepWaste detection engine identifies architectural inefficiencies, configuration gaps, and utilization patterns that Cost Explorer can't surface — then provides engineering-grade remediation with one-click fixes and IaC integration.

PointFive connects via a read-only service principal in your Azure AD tenant. The setup takes minutes through our guided onboarding flow. We analyze your Azure billing exports, resource configurations, and utilization data across all supported services.

Azure Advisor provides generic recommendations based on Microsoft's default thresholds. PointFive's DeepWaste engine detects waste patterns that Advisor misses entirely — including cross-resource dependencies, architectural inefficiencies, and optimization opportunities across multi-cloud environments. Plus, our agentic remediation automates the fix, not just the finding.

PointFive connects through a read-only service account with billing export access. We analyze your BigQuery billing exports, resource configurations, and utilization metrics. The integration is agentless and typically completed in under 30 minutes.

PointFive integrates with your Kubernetes control plane through read-only API access — no DaemonSets, sidecars, or agents deployed into your clusters. We analyze resource requests vs. actual utilization, identify oversized pods and idle workloads, and surface optimization opportunities across EKS, AKS, and GKE.

PointFive analyzes Snowflake warehouse utilization, query efficiency, storage costs, and auto-clustering spend. We detect idle warehouses, oversized clusters, excessive auto-clustering costs from high-churn tables, and snapshot storage waste — all without accessing your query text or data.

PointFive monitors Databricks cluster utilization, job efficiency, and compute spend. We identify idle clusters, oversized instances, inefficient auto-scaling configurations, and opportunities to optimize job scheduling — without accessing your notebooks or data.

Platform Features

Opportunities, detections, anomaly detection, and remediation

PointFive's DeepWaste™ detection engine identifies over 500 types of cloud waste across compute, storage, databases, networking, serverless, AI/ML, data & analytics, observability, streaming, security, and containers. Each detection is backed by usage patterns, configuration analysis, and validated remediation playbooks — not just billing thresholds.

Opportunities are prioritized, actionable savings recommendations surfaced by the DeepWaste engine. Each opportunity includes the resource affected, estimated savings, risk level, remediation steps, and can be assigned to a team member or pushed to Jira/ServiceNow. Opportunities are continuously updated as your environment changes.

PointFive's anomaly detection uses machine learning to establish baseline spending patterns and alerts you when costs deviate significantly. Each anomaly includes the affected service, cost impact, and detailed analysis showing actual vs. expected spending — so you can investigate and resolve cost spikes before they compound.

Agentic Remediation is PointFive's AI-powered approach to fixing cloud waste. Instead of just flagging issues, our AI coding agents generate contextual, engineering-ready remediation — Terraform and CloudFormation fixes mapped to your IaC, ready to merge. Every fix includes root-cause analysis, impact assessment, and safe rollback paths. Your engineers review, approve, and deploy with full confidence.

Yes. PointFive consolidates all your cloud commitments — Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and committed use discounts — into a single view. We track effective savings rates, surface expiring commitments, and recommend optimal coverage strategies across your multi-cloud environment.

Savings vary by environment, but PointFive customers typically see 15-30% reduction in total cloud spend, with an average ROI of 1,400%. Nubank saw ROI in just 10 days.

AI & Automation

Pointer AI assistant, AI Co-Workers, and MCP Server

Pointer is PointFive's in-app AI assistant. Ask natural language questions like 'Show me all idle EC2 instances in the payments team' or 'What's our optimization ROI this quarter?' Pointer accesses your full PointFive data — opportunities, resources, anomalies, billing, and commitments — and delivers persona-aware answers. Powered by Anthropic's Claude with full RBAC enforcement.

AI Co-Workers are autonomous agents that handle recurring optimization workflows. Describe a task in plain language — like 'Send a weekly Slack report of new opportunities over $1K to #engineering' — and the Co-Worker builds, schedules, and executes it. No code needed. Co-Workers can access opportunities, anomalies, resources, and deliver reports via email or Slack.

PointFive's MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server brings cost intelligence directly into agentic IDEs like Cursor and Windsurf. Engineers can query opportunities, analyze cost trends, and generate remediation code without leaving their development environment. It's the bridge between engineering workflows and cost optimization.

Pointer is powered by Anthropic's Claude, an enterprise-grade AI model. Your data is never used to train the model. All processing happens within PointFive's SOC 2-compliant infrastructure with full RBAC enforcement.

AI cost optimization is the practice of reducing costs associated with running AI workloads in the cloud — including managed LLM APIs (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, GCP Vertex AI), GPU infrastructure, inference endpoints, and training pipelines. PointFive provides a unified platform that connects to all three major clouds, automatically discovers AI services, and uses DeepWaste detection to identify optimization opportunities specific to each provider's AI pricing mechanics.

PointFive supports managed LLM services including Azure OpenAI (GPT-4o, GPT-4, o1, o3), AWS Bedrock (Claude, Titan, Llama, Mistral), and GCP Vertex AI (Gemini, PaLM, custom models). It also covers GPU infrastructure (including NVIDIA H100, H200, and B300 instances), AI training pipelines, and inference endpoints across all major cloud providers.
